Toledo - A special congratulations is in order to Sylvania Northview's Allison Rieger and Anthony Wayne's Jared Russell on being selected as the Male and Female Spotlight Athletes for the the Toledo Blade. Rieger, who most recently finished her career for the Lady Kats of Northview was a catalyst to their success this fall in helping the Kats win their first district title since 2011. Rieger scored the game-winner in extra time against St. Ursula Academy to propel the Kats to the final where she yet score the tying goal against Notre Dame Academy in the district final. Rieger finished with six goals and five assists this fall. Allison is a member of the Pacesetter Soccer Club U-18 team that saw them last spring as 17s advance to the OYSAN State Cup final - while juggling soccer and many other extracurricular activities Rieger maintains a 3.8 GPA - she plans on majoring in physical therapy in a college of her choice. As for Jared Russell, he is one of the few remaining holdovers from last year's Generals state final four team - mostly a defender last fall for the Generals...Russell has seen himself pushing up in the attack. Last saturday Jared scored the game-winner against Springfield in the district final to secure AW back to the regional semifinal and helping them win their third straight district title (first time in school history to win three straight). Russell has five tallies on the year with 2 assists and while he is participating and helping the Generals soccer program excel he is maintaining a GPA of 3.2. Russell's career is not done as the Generals play #1 Copley this saturday in Sandusky - if all else fails he plans on attending a college of his choice and majoring in computer science. Russell is a member of the reigning state champion Pacesetter Soccer Club U-18 team and was a key catalyst to their success last spring. Congratulations to these student athletes who are staying determined on the field and in the classroom and role models to the youth in the northwest Ohio soccer community.
